How saying yes brought me home
On December 4, 2013, my mother-in-law greeted me as I walked in the door in tears after my first day back from maternity leave.
I fell in to her arms weeping.
I knew what I needed to be doing and I flat out wasn't doing it.
I didn't have a plan. I didn't have an exit strategy.
Barbara held me in her arms as I sobbed and...
She comforted me and held me like I was her own daughter.
She told me that no matter what, everything was going to be ok, that we would figure it out.
She gave me the courage to trust myself and turn inward to what mattered most of all.
A few months later I joined a course at $2,000 and that investment in myself, the largest one I had ever made, was the spark that lead me to standing before you *here* today.
It was a commitment I made to myself, to my dream and it made ALL the difference.
Spending that amount of money was terrifying, but the only thing keeping me from enrolling in that instant was the money.
And that fear couldn't hold a candle to the belief I held deep down in my heart...
That my dream was worth more than the financial investment.
And more than the job that no longer fulfilled me and more than all of the nights and weekends that I spent working rather than being with the people I loved the most.
And we found a way.
We did it...
I've made that investment back too many times to count now (!!).
But FAR bigger than that..
I got to be there for my mother-in-law, just like she was there for me that night.
I got to be there for her as we grappled with facing her cancer head on.
I got to bring Anni over to see her, to take her to chemo appointments and to host family get togethers where we could all be together and cherish those precious moments.
I had the time and space to be fully present for the last 2 years of her life.
The benefits of saying yes to myself extended WAY beyond monetary gains...saying yes to myself gave me the LIFE that I have always wanted.
It brought me home to myself, to my marriage, to my family and the people I love most.
Saying YES changed everything.
Nothing good comes from living an unfulfilled life.
Nothing expansive can happen when we stay stuck in the fear of taking the next step.
Our lives can completely transform with one decision.
Whatever you are grappling with today, take the leap, dive in head first...
Say yes to yourself and watch what happens next.
